Drata's product suite had grown rapidly, and with the launch of its unified Trust Management Platform, the company needed a single, cohesive graphic to tell the whole story. The challenge was translating a complex ecosystem of products, features, and integrations into something both technically accurate and immediately understandable. Compounding this was a lack of clear ownership over the platform narrative, which led to significant misalignment across teams around hierarchy, naming, and product relationships. The final output needed to serve both internal and external audiences without flattening the platform's depth.
I began by consolidating fragmented inputs from across teams, identifying patterns, gaps, and inconsistencies in the existing structure. AI-assisted exploration helped rapidly test different hierarchy models before moving to low-fidelity concepts. To build alignment, I facilitated live collaborative working sessions where stakeholders could actively restructure and validate the system in real time. Once a shared framework emerged, I refined the hierarchy through structured iteration rounds and translated it into two outputs: a detailed version for technical and internal audiences, and a simplified version for executive storytelling and external use.
The final Layer Cake unified a highly complex product suite into a clearer, more navigable system. Leadership responded strongly to its ability to balance depth with usability. The detailed version became a valuable internal reference for product and technical discussions, while the simplified version supported executive storytelling and external communication, used in presentations. Together, the outputs created a stronger foundation for product positioning and platform evolution.
